first impressions of JAPAN!

I am here now in Japan! It's so awesome! Everything is so different. Japan in general is very clean, safe feeling, people are very polite and respectful and much quieter, you always bow to people and they bow to you (its like a wave or hand shake) there is a lot of flowers and trees and water and nature. everyone dresses a lot better, you never see sweats or people looking like bums. everyone is dressed professional or fashionable. Tons of people get around on bikes, cars drive on the left, green lights tweet like birds or play little jingles. there are little cute animals on most of the signs, advertisements, food packaging. You dont wear your shoes onto the floor in the hotel or dorm. there is a lot of modern geometric architecture mixed in with traditional.

this is the northern most edge of alaska! we also flew over the arctic ocean, siberia, russia, and the bering sea!
cuteness is everywhere!
remember to take your shoes off.
the view from justin's dorm balcony.
a lunch we cooked, oishii!
hanami! the festival for cherry blossom viewing, families and friends go to the park in the evening and bring food and drinks and just have a good time together. when it gets dark they light up the trees.
so fun!

setting sail across the sky!

the time has come! in just under 6 hours i will begin my 25 hour transit to japan! i fly to chicago, then tokyo, then fukuoka... it's unreal that at this time tomorrow I will be on the other side of the earth. I am so excited, I can't wait to arrive in this magical place (which will be in the midst of cherry blossom season!) and see justin, and explore!

the song for right now: JAPAN by COCOROSIE

old and new from the studio

I finally finished the huge painting on my studio wall! it's just time to move onto new things. and as much as I really do like this painting and could work out things forever, I can't get so attached to a piece that I can never move on. Well it feels good to be done and I submitted it to a juried show that runs through UD. wish me luck!

gobbledigook.

get excited all. a fashion film short is coming your way. I can't bear to show you any video clips because I want it to hit you all at once when it's finished.... I project sometime mid may...

white day package! (a week overdue)

the wonders of white day brought these wonderful things into my hands! little trinkets and beautiful hand made drawings!

take it seriously and play.

UD\ART nyc trip today. went to wieden + kennedy. they are doing some amazingly sick stuff. like this promotional for isaora the guys are really cool, pretty recent graduates from ud. they are doing their thing and playing with some really awesome people. dresscode was a really small modern studio, we sat with andre and talked about art, design, culture, and society then he showed us the back look at how one of their motion grpahics ads was made. then we went up town for tim burton at the moma. soo crowded but interesting. over all quite a full and inspiring day!

hello sunshine.

it's feeling like spring today, yes new beginnings and life lessons. all i want to do is ride my bicycle.

my vintage bird / blue & yellow seemed super appropriate to welcome the sunny streak coming our way in delaware!

white day!

today is white day! and i stole this from justin's blog :)

"This one goes out to my 彼女 (kanojo - girl friend) !! I wish her a Happy White Day from Japan. As far as Valentine’s Day goes here, it is customary for a girl to give hand-made or gourmet chocolates to a guy she really likes. There is a special day called White Day, exactly one month after Valentine’s Day, March 14th, on which the guy either decides to give or not give a gift in return. If he does in fact return the gift, the girl is reassured that his love is true, ya know what I mean? yeah. So anyway, in my case, this picture is just a small part of my return gift. (K, I suppose you could see it as the “card” of your gift…the rest is comin’ your way.)"

Justin dedicated his performance and the South Japan Yoyo Contest to me! hehe! :)
